The new and exciting sport of NFL flag football has come to New Canaan and will begin its third season this fall. The co-sponsored program with the New Canaan Flag Football League follows the rules and guidelines set by the National Football League and will have two age restricted leagues open to New Canaan boys and girls ages 9-11 and New Canaan boys ages 12-14. Participants must be the required ages of 9-14 on or before September 1. The program will begin with a pre-registration followed by a player evaluation day. Children will then be assigned to a team with volunteer coaches and practice once or twice a week including a round-robin schedule of games played on Saturdays beginning in September. Official NFL Flag team jerseys will be handed out along with flag belts and participants must have a mouthguard. A special season ending tournament will determine the league champions. Fall 2008 registration is open at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House with special registration deadlines and fees.
